Mastercard Undergraduate Scholarships at Makerere University 2025

Makerere University is taking applications for the 2025–2026 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme for first degree study.

The offer is for young people from Africa who cannot pay for university but wish to study and help grow their country.

This scholarship runs at the main campus for ten years and supports both undergraduate and graduate levels.

This application round is for undergraduate degree study only.

Get Full Support While Studying

Each scholar will receive:

• Full tuition and school charges
• Laptop, books and study tools
• Housing, bedding and food
• Health cover
• Monthly allowance
• Travel from and back home

Meet the Conditions to Apply

To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

• Be a national of Uganda, a refugee, a person with a disability, displaced or from another African country
• Have applied for admission at Makerere University main campus under private sponsorship for the 2025–2026 session
• Have one of the following:
  • Finished advanced secondary school or its match in an African country
  • Hold a diploma with second class or credit from a known school
  • Passed Makerere University's mature age test
• Be facing money hardship
• Not hold any other scholarship, including Uganda Government support
• Not have finished any undergraduate course
• Show signs of leadership or service to community
• Be 28 years old or below on the application deadline
• If a refugee or a person with a disability, be 32 years old or below by the deadline
