The programme aims to offer training for NCE holders, filling a gap that has long existed.
Announcement by the Minister
The announcement came from the Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Olawande Wisdom.
He spoke at the opening of the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan.
Mr. Wisdom shared that the Ministry of Youth Development is working with the Ministry of Education.
Together, they plan to create various training reforms, including a programme for NCE graduates.
The Need for the Scheme
This new scheme aims to provide local training options.
It will help NCE holders avoid the need to travel to other states for training.
Mr. Wisdom highlighted that while NYSC serves university graduates, NCE holders have not had a similar opportunity.
He stressed the ministry's commitment to citizenship and training, which are key focuses of the new programme.
Social Impact and Praise for Initiatives
The Minister also addressed social issues, noting the positive impact of organisations like the Boys' Brigade and Girl Guides.
These groups help to steer youth away from negative influences.
The ministry plans to enhance citizenship and training through the proposed programme.
Mr. Wisdom praised Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu has made significant contributions to the development of girls.
Her work focuses on raising standards, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Focus on Women and Girls
During her address, Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu clarified that the BEMORE initiative is not funded by the Ondo State Government.
The initiative aims to nurture future female leaders in STEM.
She emphasised the importance of including women and girls in development efforts.
Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu shared her experiences as motivation for the initiative.
She stated that true development cannot be achieved if women and girls, who make up 50% of the population, are left out.
Encouragement for Youth Participation
Mr. Abdulrahman Yinusa, Group Managing Director and CEO of Odu'a Investments, also attended the event.
He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training opportunities offered.
Mr. Yinusa commended the organisers and mentors for their dedication to advancing girls through technology education.
The event also featured a training session on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by the Red Cross Society.
A book titled The History of BEMORE, A Historical Voyage by Esther Michael was launched at the event.
