OAU wins 2025 EU Grant for Smart Farming and IoT in Agriculture

Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, has emerged as one of the winners and beneficiaries of the 2025 EU Grant under ERASMUS for the establishment of a Master of Science degree programme in Smart Farming and IoT in Agriculture, named MESITA.

OAU is part of a consortium made up of four Nigerian universities, three European universities, and a cloud funding digital ecosystem organisation. The project carries the code MESITA: ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-2.

What the MESITA project covers

The project is for the establishment of a Master of Science degree programme in Smart Farming and IoT in Agriculture across four universities in Nigeria.

It began in Abuja in November 2025. The programme is designed to equip graduates with smart agricultural skills; it also promotes sustainable and climate-friendly farming practices.

The project also encourages university-industry cooperation and supports entrepreneurship and employability in the smart agriculture sector.
