President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje as the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.
The renewal gives Professor Bugaje a second and final term of five years. His first appointment as NBTE Executive Secretary began on 14 March 2021.
Why the appointment was renewed
The President renewed the appointment after a review of Professor Bugaje’s performance, leadership record, and the changes recorded in the technical and vocational education and training, TVET, sub-sector under his watch.
The decision links directly to the work already carried out at NBTE; the record formed the basis for the renewal.
Achievements listed under Bugaje’s tenure
The statement listed some of the results recorded by NBTE in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education.
These include:
- strategic repositioning and strengthening of Nigeria’s TVET ecosystem
- comprehensive curriculum modernisation
- development and review of 100 national curricula in line with global skills demands
Those points sit at the centre of the renewal notice. The message is Clear; the President tied the second term to work already done.
Tinubu’s directive for the second term
President Tinubu urged Professor Bugaje to use the second term to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete the critical initiatives already underway.
That places the next phase of his tenure on two tracks; consolidation of current reforms and completion of pending key projects.
What the renewal means for NBTE
The renewal keeps Professor Bugaje in office as Executive Secretary of NBTE for another five years, which will be his second and final term.
The notice also keeps attention on the TVET sub-sector, curriculum review, and the work already started under his leadership.
