TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme: Eligibility and Benefits
The Associateship Scheme covers a three-year appointment, during which associates can visit participating centres twice to conduct their research.
The scheme is designed to counteract the brain drain often seen in developing countries and allows researchers to benefit from collaborative work in their fields.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree.
- Special consideration is given to scientists from isolated institutions in developing countries.
- Women scientists are encouraged to apply.
What Does the TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Cover?
The Associateship covers travel expenses and a monthly contribution of $300 for local incidental expenses.
The host centre provides accommodation, meals and research facilities, ensuring that associates have the resources needed to carry out their work.
How to Apply for the TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme
To apply for the TWAS-UNESCO Associateship Scheme, you need to fill out the online application form.
While completing the form, applicants must upload the following documents:
- A scanned copy of the applicant's passport (even if expired).
- A supporting statement from the head of the home institution.
- The applicant's curriculum vitae (no more than four pages).
- A full list of publications.
- The applicant's PhD certificate.
- Two letters of recommendation, with one from an expert from another country.
- An invitation letter from the host institution, outlining the proposed time and nature of the visits.
Cost and Financial Support
Participants in the TWAS-UNESCO Associateship benefit from full coverage of travel costs, accommodation and meals.
The associate will also receive $300 per month to help with incidental expenses during their stay.
