Applications are now open for the UN OHCHR Fellowship Programme 2023 for People of African Descent. The programme is designed to provide intensive human rights training to individuals of African descent from the diaspora engaged in promoting the rights of people of African descent. The fellowship takes place annually at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, offering participants various benefits and opportunities to enhance their understanding and skills in human rights.

- Comprehensive learning on international human rights law, the UN human rights system and frameworks to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, with a focus on people of African descent.
- Skill development in project proposal creation, presentation delivery and submitting information to human rights mechanisms.
- First-hand exposure to human rights mechanisms and networking with a wide range of actors.
- Each fellow receives a return ticket (economy class) from their country of residence to Geneva, basic health insurance and a stipend to cover modest accommodation and living expenses for the programme duration.
UN OHCHR Fellowship Programme Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the programme, candidates must:
- Be of African descent living in the Diaspora.
- Have at least 4 years of work experience related to the rights of People of African Descent.
- Submit a letter from an organization working on issues related to people of African Descent or minority rights, certifying their status.
- Be available to attend the full duration of the programme and actively participate in all activities.
UN OHCHR Fellowship Programme Application Process:
To apply for the UN OHCHR Fellowship Programme 2023, applicants must submit the following documents in a single email to ohchr-africandescentfellowship@un.org:
- A Curriculum Vitae
- A completed, signed and scanned Application Form (in English, French or Spanish)
- A Personal Statement (max 500 words) explaining the applicant's motivation and how they will use the knowledge gained from the fellowship
- An Official Letter from the nominating organization certifying the applicant's status
- A copy of the applicant's passport
Remember to mention "Application for the 2023 Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent" in the email subject header and name the attached documents accordingly.
