The University of Port Harcourt's Institute of Niger Delta Studies has opened its doors for the 2025/2026 postgraduate intake. The programmes cut across security, intelligence and maritime studies, aimed at equipping students with skills relevant to both the Niger Delta and the global stage.

A Bit About the Institute
Established in June 2011, the institute focuses on training professionals who can think critically and solve problems. Its work goes beyond the classroom, tackling issues from security challenges to marine and coastal management. From preserving coastlines to sustaining ocean health, the programmes aim to blend academic knowledge with real-world impact.

Who Can Apply
PGD Security and Intelligence Studies – At least a third-class degree or HND Upper Credit in any field.
M.Sc. Security and Intelligence Studies – At least a second-class honours degree in any field.
PhD Security and Intelligence Studies – A Master's degree in Security and Intelligence Studies, Sociology or Law with at least a 3.50 CGPA.
PGD Blue Economy and Maritime Studies – At least a third-class degree or HND Upper Credit in any field.
M.Sc. Blue Economy and Maritime Studies – A second-class honours degree in Geography, Environmental Management, Economics, Animal or Plant Science, Biotechnology, Transport, Logistics or Management Sciences.
Programme Duration
- PGD – 12 months
- M.Sc. – 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time
- PhD – 24 months full-time or 36 months part-time
