The Postgraduate School of the University of Uyo, UNIUYO, has commenced the sale of application forms for admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Applicants seeking PGD, Master's, MPhil/PhD or PhD admission are expected to check the programme duration, entry conditions, document rules and online application process before payment is made.

What is the duration of UNIUYO postgraduate programmes?
UNIUYO postgraduate programmes have stated minimum and maximum durations and candidates should note that all programmes under the Postgraduate School are full time.
The programme durations are as follows:
- Master's degree programme: minimum of four semesters and maximum of six semesters
- PhD programme: minimum of six semesters and maximum of ten semesters
- MPhil/PhD programme: minimum of two semesters before transition into full PhD
- Postgraduate Diploma programme: minimum of two semesters and maximum of four semesters
- PGD in Engineering: minimum of four semesters and maximum of six semesters
Part-time programmes are domiciled in the School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies.
Who can apply for the Postgraduate Diploma programme?
Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma programme should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other university recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
Persons with qualifications judged by the Senate to be equivalent to a first degree may also be considered and holders of recognised Higher National Diploma may apply.
Who can apply for a Master's degree programme?
Applicants for Master's degree admission should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other university recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
The applicant must have at least a Second-Class Honours degree, irrespective of CGPA.
Who can apply for M.Sc Medical Microbiology?
Candidates for M.Sc Medical Microbiology should be graduates from any of the stated areas.
The accepted qualifications are:
- Microbiology
- Virology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology
- MBBCh, MBBS or its equivalent
Who can apply for Master's in Public Health?
Applicants for the Master's degree programme in Public Health should be graduates with an MBBS degree.
They must also have a full registration number of MCN.
Who can apply for a PhD programme?
Applicants for doctoral degree programmes should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other university recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
They must possess Master's degrees with dissertation and an overall CGPA of at least 60 per cent, grade B.
Who can apply for the Integrated MPhil/PhD programme?
Candidates for the Integrated MPhil/PhD programme must have attained a minimum average mark of 55 to less than 60 per cent in a Master's degree programme.
The Master's degree must be in a relevant discipline from the University of Uyo or any other university recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo.
What O'Level requirements apply to all applicants?
All applicants should have credit pass at Ordinary Level in five relevant subjects, including English Language.
The credits must be obtained at not more than two sittings.
Candidates with O'Level results before 2017 must possess their certificates, since statements of results or result slips will not be accepted for those examinations.
What extra subject requirements apply to some faculties?
Applicants for PGD in Law, LLM and PhD in Law must have credit pass in English Literature as one of the five relevant Ordinary Level subjects.
Applicants for the Faculty of Agriculture must have credit pass in Chemistry as one of the five relevant Ordinary Level subjects.
Will applicants sit for screening?
Applicants may undergo a screening test.
The screening may cover the subject area of specialisation and oral interaction in the department.
Is NYSC certificate required?
NYSC Completion Certificate, Exemption Certificate or Exclusion Certificate is required from all applicants.
One of these certificates must be submitted with the application form or before the screening exercise.
What applies to applicants who used remedial programmes?
Applicants who obtained their first degrees through remedial programmes must show evidence that they remedied the relevant subjects for their programmes externally.
The accepted external examinations stated are WASCE, NECO or NABTEB.
What departmental requirements must applicants meet?
Applicants are expected to meet the departmental requirements for their chosen programmes, apart from the general qualifications listed by the Postgraduate School.
Each candidate should check the department linked to the chosen course before application is completed.
What proposal must be uploaded?
Applicants should upload the required proposal for their level of study.
The required proposal type is as follows:
- Project proposal for PGD candidates
- Dissertation proposal for Master's candidates
- Thesis proposal for PhD candidates
The proposal must be uploaded in PDF format, typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
What headings should the proposal contain?
The research proposal should follow the headings stated by the Postgraduate School.
The headings are:
- Title, 22 words maximum
- Candidate's name
- Abstract, 150 words maximum
- Introduction, aims and objectives
- Relevance of study
- Methodology
- Ethical issues, where applicable
- Expected results
- Proposed new contribution
- References, with a minimum of 20 references
Where should transcripts and reference forms be sent?
Candidates should ensure that their official academic transcripts and three completed reference forms are forwarded to the Postgraduate School.

How much is the UNIUYO postgraduate application form?
The application fee is N20,000.
The fee is non-refundable and the application form will be accessed online after payment.
How can applicants apply for UNIUYO postgraduate admission?
Applicants are to generate a Remita Retrieval Reference through the UNIUYO portal, make payment and return to the portal to complete the online registration.
The application process is as follows:
- Visit the UNIUYO ePortals payment portal.
- Generate the Remita Retrieval Reference.
- Make payment through any commercial bank nationwide.
- Return to the portal after payment.
- Click the Login Form link and enter the RRR.
- Print out the payment receipt.
- Click the Registration link to obtain login credentials.
- Log in and complete the registration.
- Print the 2026/2027 application form.
- Upload all relevant credentials, transcripts and research proposals in PDF format.
The notice states that there will be no hard copy submission of relevant documents.
When will the application close?
The application window will remain open for two months from the date of the advertisement.
