Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) in Enugu State will honour 27 graduating students with first-class degrees during its 12th convocation ceremony.

This event will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

The number of first-class graduates is the highest in the university’s history.

Graduating Class Highlights

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christian Anieke, announced that 546 students would graduate this year.

Out of the total, 27 students achieved first-class honours.

This announcement was made after a 22km marathon race held as part of the convocation celebrations.

Recent Achievements at GOUNI

The university has launched a nursing school approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

GOUNI now offers 83 programmes, including 40 undergraduate and 43 postgraduate options.

An oxygen plant has been completed to serve hospitals in the state.

GOUNI has also established Africa’s first DNA learning centre.

Progress in Medicine and Sports

The College of Medicine recently received accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

The pioneer medical students are in their third year and will take their second MBBS exams in March next year.

GOUNI has increased its medicine admission quota to 75 students.

The university aims to become a sports hub with the completion of its stadium.

Marathon Race and Prizes

The convocation marathon recognised talent in sports.

The male and female winners each received N500,000.

The first and second runners-up received N200,000 and N100,000 respectively.
