ABSU Department of Nursing upgraded to Faculty of Nursing Sciences

Abia State University has upgraded its Department of Nursing Science to a full Faculty of Nursing Sciences, now made up of four key departments. The change reflects a broader academic structure and better focus on specialist areas of nursing.
Abia State University, Uturu, has confirmed that its Department of Nursing Science is now officially a Faculty of Nursing Sciences. The announcement marks a clear shift in structure, showing the university’s commitment to strengthening nursing education and expanding its reach in healthcare training.
Departments Under the New Faculty
The new faculty is made up of four core departments, each handling a vital area of nursing:
- Maternity and Child Health Nursing
(Covers midwifery, child health and related care) - Mental and Psychiatric Health Nursing
(Focuses on mental health, psychiatric care and therapy support) - Community Health Nursing
(Covers public health, rural health access, and preventive care) - Medical Surgical Nursing
(Centres on patient care during and after surgical procedures, including intensive care)
