NWU Kano Academic Calendar 2025/2026 for Undergraduates

Northwest University, Kano has approved the official academic calendar for undergraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. The Senate gave the approval at its 65th meeting held on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The calendar sets out the dates for registration, matriculation, orientation, lectures, examinations, result processing, Senate meetings, and the close of the session. For students who need the full schedule in one place, this is the Core outline.

First semester schedule

The first semester begins with registration for fresh students from Monday, 23 March 2026 to Sunday, 5 April 2026, for two weeks. Registration for returning students will run from Monday, 20 April 2026 to Sunday, 26 April 2026, for one week.

Matriculation is fixed for Tuesday, 28 April 2026. Orientation for fresh students at the University, Faculty, and Department levels will run from Thursday, 30 April 2026 to Saturday, 9 May 2026, for 10 days.

First semester lectures will begin on Monday, 11 May 2026 and end on Saturday, 20 June 2026, covering six weeks. The mid-semester break will hold from Monday, 22 June 2026 to Saturday, 27 June 2026, for one week.

Lectures will continue from Monday, 29 June 2026 to Saturday, 8 August 2026, for another six weeks. First semester examinations will take place from Monday, 10 August 2026 to Saturday, 29 August 2026, for three weeks.

Marking of scripts and submission of results will run from Saturday, 29 August 2026 to Sunday, 20 September 2026, for three weeks. Examination Board Meetings for Departments and Faculties will hold from Monday, 21 September 2026 to Saturday, 26 September 2026. SBC meetings to consider first semester results will follow from Monday, 28 September 2026 to Saturday, 3 October 2026. Senate meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 6 October 2026 to Wednesday, 7 October 2026.

The first semester break is listed from Saturday, 29 August 2026 to Saturday, 5 September 2026, for one week.

Second semester schedule

Second semester lectures will start on Monday, 7 September 2026 and end on Saturday, 17 October 2026, covering six weeks. The second mid-semester break will run from Monday, 19 October 2026 to Saturday, 24 October 2026, for one week.

The continuation of second semester lectures is scheduled from Monday, 26 October 2026 to Saturday, 28 November 2026, for five weeks. Second semester examinations will hold from Monday, 30 November 2026 to Saturday, 19 December 2026, for three weeks.

Marking of scripts and submission of results will run from Saturday, 19 December 2026 to Sunday, 10 January 2027, for three weeks. Examination Board Meetings for Departments and Faculties will hold from Monday, 11 January 2027 to Saturday, 16 January 2027. SBC meetings to consider second semester results are fixed for Monday, 18 January 2027 to Saturday, 23 January 2027. Senate meeting will hold from Tuesday, 26 January 2027 to Wednesday, 27 January 2027.

Add and drop period

The add and drop period is scheduled from Monday, 14 September 2026 to Saturday, 19 September 2026, for one week.

End of session and new session date

The end of the 2025/2026 academic session is listed from Saturday, 19 December 2026 to Saturday, 6 March 2027, for 12 weeks. The new 2026/2027 session will begin on Monday, 8 March 2027.
