UNIABUJA Convocation 2026 Full Schedule

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, on behalf of the Council, Senate, and the University Community, has announced the schedule for the 29th and 30th Combined Convocation Ceremony. The programme will run from Friday, 10 April to Saturday, 18 April 2026. It will feature the award of First Degrees, Higher Degrees, and the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees.

The University stated that all major ceremonies will take place at the University Convocation Square, Main Campus, starting at 10:00 am daily, unless stated otherwise.

Friday, 10 April 2026

The opening event is the Juma’at Prayer. It will hold at the University Mosque by 1:00 pm.

Sunday, 12 April 2026

The Inter-Denominational Church Service will hold at the Chapel of Love, Mini Campus, by 9:00 am.

Monday, 13 April 2026

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, will lead the press briefing at the Academic Conference Centre, Main Campus, by 10:00 am.

Tuesday, 14 April 2026

Three events are scheduled for the day.

The Faculty Innovation Showcase will begin by 10:00 am. It will cover research display, patents, students’ projects, and community impact projects.

The Drug Awareness and Sensitisation Lecture will hold by 3:00 pm. Its theme is “High Today, Low Tomorrow: The Real Cost of Drug Abuse on Campus”. The speaker is Brigadier Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Director General, NDLEA.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Fireside Chat with First-Class Graduands will hold at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre by 5:00 pm.

Wednesday, 15 April 2026

The day opens with tree planting by the best graduating students. That event will take place at the Faculty of Law Road by 10:00 am.

The Climate Change Lecture will follow at 11:00 am. Its topic is “Carbon Credits from Tree Planting: Opportunities and Challenges for Nigeria’s Climate Goals”. Omoteniaye Majekodunmi will deliver the lecture.

Later in the day, the Department of Theatre Arts will stage the convocation play at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre by 4:00 pm.

Thursday, 16 April 2026

The convocation lecture is scheduled for 11:00 am at the Faculty of Law Lecture Theatre. The lecture is titled “Graduating into an AI Powered Fintech World: Opportunities, Challenges and Responsibilities”. The guest speaker is Olugbenga Agboola, OON, Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave.

Friday, 17 April 2026

The convocation ceremony for the award of First Degrees will hold at the Convocation Square by 10:00 am. Later that day, the Chancellor’s Dinner will take place at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, by 6:00 pm.

Saturday, 18 April 2026

The ceremony for the award of Higher Degrees and the conferment of Honorary Degrees will hold at the Convocation Square by 10:00 am.

Key dates graduands and guests should note

Anyone following the UNIABUJA convocation schedule will want to keep three dates close: Thursday, 16 April for the convocation lecture; Friday, 17 April for the award of First Degrees; and Saturday, 18 April for Higher Degrees and Honorary Degrees. Those are the headline events of the programme; the rest build up to them.
