The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering Admission Form is now available for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The NNPC/SPDC JV Centre of Excellence in Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering at UNIBEN was established in 2012 to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Academic activities began in the 2013/2014 session, with a focus on producing industry-ready graduates.

M.Sc. Programmes Offered
The Centre offers integrated Master’s programmes in key areas of Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering.
These programmes are designed to equip students with the skills required in exploration, production, and value creation in the oil and gas sector.
Available M.Sc. Programmes:
- M.Sc. Integrated Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation Studies (Geology Option)
- M.Sc. Integrated Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation Studies (Geophysics Option)
- M.Sc. Integrated Petroleum Engineering and Production Studies
Who Should Apply?
These M.Sc. programmes are ideal for motivated graduates aiming to pursue professional careers in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering.
They are also suitable for practising professionals in the Exploration and Production industry, as well as those in Geoscience Agencies and Consulting firms.
Programme Duration
The M.Sc. programmes are full-time and last for 18 calendar months.
This includes 12 months of academic work and a mandatory 6-month internship in an Exploration & Production Company or other relevant organizations.
Admission Requirements
To qualify for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A first degree in Geology, Geophysics, or Petroleum Engineering with at least a Second Class Upper Division.
- A first degree in a relevant field in the Physical Sciences or Engineering with at least a Second Class Upper Division.
- Completion of NYSC is required.
PhD Programmes Offered
The Centre also offers Doctoral programmes designed to advance students’ knowledge and skills in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering.
These programmes provide opportunities for professional development and research, preparing graduates to meet the challenges of the energy sector.

Who Should Apply?
The PhD programmes are for candidates who wish to further their education and experience in science or engineering.
These programmes are suitable for those aiming to become professionals, researchers, or leaders in the industry, academia, or government.
Programme Duration
The PhD programmes are full-time and designed to run for a minimum of three years.
Admission Requirements for PhD
Applicants must have an M.Sc. degree in a relevant field with a minimum average score of 65%.
Consideration may be given to those with a minimum score of 60% and at least 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
Applicants must also submit a Statement of Intent outlining their proposed PhD research project in no more than 500 words.

- Register for the application after reading the instructions.
Submit your application online and make the payment via the Interswitch platform using a valid ATM or CASHCARD from any commercial bank in Nigeria.
Request academic transcripts to be sent to:

School of Postgraduate Studies,
University of Benin, Benin City.
Also, ensure that letters of recommendation from at least three referees, including one academic staff from the graduating institution, are sent to the same address.
Corporate bodies and agencies nominating staff should endorse completed hard copy application forms and send them to the School of Postgraduate Studies after online submission.
The application deadline is 29th November 2024.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified and invited for an interview for final selection into the programme.
