Application Now Open
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has started accepting applications for its 2024–2025 postgraduate programmes. These include Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s, and PhD degrees. If you meet the entry criteria, you can now apply online.
Available Programmes

Entry Requirements
Before applying, check that you meet the right conditions:
For PGD Programmes
- Minimum CGPA of 1.25 on a 5-point scale
For Master’s Programmes
- Minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 3.0 on a 5-point scale
For PhD Programmes
- Minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or 3.5 on a 5-point scale
- Applicants must submit a brief (max 500 words) summary of their research interest
Extra Notes
- All programmes include course work
- Names must be filled in the format: Surname, First name, Middle name
- Once you submit the form, changes won’t be allowed
Special Focus: Sustainable Development Studies
Two specific programmes fall under this area:
Master’s in Sustainable Development Studies
To qualify, you’ll need:
- A Bachelor’s degree (BSc, B.Ed, etc.) with CGPA of 2.75 or 3.0, depending on your grading scale
- At least five O-level credits, including English, Maths, and three relevant subjects, passed in no more than two sittings
PhD in Sustainable Development Studies
You need:
- A Master’s in a related field like Environmental Science, Economics, Sociology, or Public Admin, with CGPA of 2.75 or 3.0
- Same O-level requirement as above

How to Apply
- Visit UNICAL postgraduate portal
- Download the prospectus to see all courses and details
- Pay a non-refundable ₦40,000 fee at any bank via the e-Transact platform
- Collect your payment receipt with a unique PIN
- Go back to the portal and log in using your PIN and phone number
- Fill and submit the application form online
