NYSC NERD Certificate Rule for Graduates: What PCMs Should Know

NYSC has said it will mobilise only graduates who present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, known as NERD.

The National Youth Service Corps gave the reminder as part of its push to curb certificate fraud and ensure that only genuine graduates enter national service.

NYSC Restates NERD Certificate Requirement

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, spoke on the matter during the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop held in Abuja.

His keynote address focused on accountability, compliance and a stronger mobilisation process, with special attention on the roles of schools, regulators and other bodies that handle graduate data before service.

General Nafiu said all Prospective Corps Members, also called PCMs, must comply with the Federal Government directive on NERD certification.

That message was clear.

CPIs Asked to Sensitise Students

The NYSC boss urged Corps-Producing Institutions to properly sensitise their students before mobilisation begins.

He said CPIs must ensure strict compliance with the NERD process, since errors or weak checks at school level can affect the credibility of mobilisation.

NYSC, he added, cannot handle the process alone.

NYSC Calls for Wider Support

General Nafiu called on regulatory bodies, security agencies and relevant ministries to support the mobilisation process through policy guidance, capacity building and enforcement of standards.

He said joint action would make the movement from student status to national service smoother, clearer and more credible for PCMs.

He also urged stakeholders to face the obstacles in the system with courage and practical solutions.

Corps Mobilisation Director Speaks

Earlier, the NYSC Director of Corps Mobilisation, Mrs Rachel Ideawor, described the Pre-Mobilisation Workshop as a key platform for stronger collaboration between NYSC, CPIs and other stakeholders.

She said NYSC had made progress in improving mobilisation, but more work still needs to go into service delivery across the whole process.

Ideawor also asked Student Affairs Officers to handle their duties with diligence and integrity, especially when submitting details of PCMs.

Accurate records matter.

Stakeholders at the Workshop

The workshop brought together major bodies linked to graduate verification, education regulation and NYSC mobilisation.

Those present included:

Their presence showed the broad role each body plays in the mobilisation chain.

What This Means for PCMs

The main message for prospective corps members is simple: NERD compliance now matters in the NYSC mobilisation process.

Graduates who plan to join national service need to follow the guidance from their schools and ensure their records reflect their true academic profiles before mobilisation.

For CPIs, the task is also direct.

They must sensitise students, verify records properly and support a process that NYSC wants to keep credible, transparent and fair.
