Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship

The Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship for Women, FBMSYW, has opened its 4th scholarship call for young Nigerian women in secondary schools and universities.

Opekete Foundation created the award in memory of late Mrs Florence Bamidele Makanjuola, known as FBM, and it supports girls and women who plan to study, or already study, Nursing or Teaching in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

About the Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship

The scholarship keeps alive the values linked with late Florence Bamidele Makanjuola, who cared deeply about women’s education and financial independence.

The award targets young women facing extreme financial hardship; many of them cannot continue their studies without outside support. It does more than give a bursary, as selected beneficiaries also take part in mentoring, community projects and work placements.

Who the Scholarship Is For

The Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship is for female Nigerian students who want to study Nursing or Teaching in STEM.

A candidate may be in secondary school, seeking admission into a university, or already enrolled in a public university while applying for this support. The applicant must show interest in Nursing or STEM Teaching and must also show the personal drive needed for steady academic work.

To qualify for the scholarship, an applicant must meet the listed conditions.

Academic Requirements for Secondary School Applicants

A secondary school applicant must have at least 5 As or Bs in Junior WAEC.

The required subjects must include English Language and Mathematics, plus any other 3 major subjects.

Academic Requirements for University Applicants

A university applicant must have at least 5 As or Bs in WAEC or NECO.

JAMB and GPA Requirements

Applicants seeking university admission must meet the required JAMB cut-off score for the chosen course and school.

Students asking for funding support to complete university must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Conditions for Keeping the Scholarship

Secondary school awardees must maintain an average of 65% across all subjects.

University awardees must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 out of 5 each semester to remain on the programme.

Each applicant must also write a 300-word essay explaining why she deserves the scholarship.

After successful screening, shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an aptitude test and virtual interview.
