Boys Without Borders Nigeria, in partnership with Writinova and with support from Mr. Chidera Anushiem, has opened entries for the 2026 Chidera Anushiem Essay Competition.
The undergraduate essay contest is part of the group's annual International Day of the Boy-child campaign. It aims to promote intellectual engagement on key social issues while giving young men in Nigerian universities a clear platform to write, think and compete.

Entry period
Interested participants are to submit their entries from 4 April 2026 to 22 April 2026.
Essay topic
This year's topic is:
"Equality Begins at Home: How Family and Upbringing Shape Attitudes Toward Gender."
Prizes and rewards
The competition offers cash prizes for the top three winners:
- 1st place: N70,000
- 2nd place: N50,000
- 3rd place: N30,000
The top ten participants will also receive mentorship opportunities and other awards. The top five contestants will get consolation prizes as well.
Who can apply
Applicants must be male undergraduate students in Nigerian higher institutions.
Each entrant must provide a valid student ID card or another suitable document that shows the student's name, photograph and institution.
Essay rules and submission guide
Entries must meet these conditions:
- The essay must be 800 to 1000 words.
- The document must not carry the entrant's name or school.
- The document should contain only the essay title and word count.
- Every submission must be original; plagiarised work will be disqualified.
- Entries must be sent through the official submission link.
- Participants must follow @writinova and @boyswithoutbordersng on Instagram and upload proof during submission.
How winners will be selected
After evaluation, the organisers will shortlist the top ten essays. Selected writers will then attend a conference and the final winners will be chosen from that group.
Who cannot take part
Members of Boys Without Borders Nigeria and its campus networks are not eligible for the competition.
