Professor Segun Aina Appointed New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. He succeeds Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure expires on 31 July 2026.

Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, steps into one of Nigeria’s most watched education offices with a background that cuts across computer engineering, national examination systems and public-sector reform. His appointment also makes him the youngest Registrar JAMB has had.

Who Is Professor Segun Aina?

Professor Segun Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. His academic and professional work has focused on digital systems, examination processes and public service structure.

He began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early exposure to national admissions and education processes. That early link with the Board later shaped his work around examination reform and digital systems.

Education and Training

Professor Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also holds an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. That training sits beside his technical work and public-sector advisory roles.

Career and Public Sector Experience

With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, Professor Aina has worked across technology, policy and public-sector change. His work includes advice to federal and state governments on system design, digital transition and operational reform.

At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors. Now, his appointment places him at the head of JAMB at a younger age than any registrar before him.

Work With Examination Bodies

Professor Aina has served as a consultant to major examination bodies in Nigeria. These include NECO, NABTEB and several State Ministries of Education.

His work in those spaces covers ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process improvement. Those areas match many of the demands placed on JAMB as an admissions and examination body.

Professional Memberships

Professor Aina belongs to several professional bodies. They include:

What President Tinubu Expects

President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring his experience, knowledge and practical insight to the operations of JAMB. The appointment also comes with a clear task: move the Board beyond the level reached under Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
