Achievers University Secures MDCN Pre-Clinical Accreditation for MBBS Programme

Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has secured pre-clinical accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery programme from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN.

The Council also approved an increase in the university’s yearly medical student admission quota from 50 to 120. For the university community, that number says plenty without making noise; more approved spaces now sit within the MBBS programme.

MDCN Approves Achievers University MBBS Pre-Clinical Accreditation

The approval followed an accreditation visit to Achievers University on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.

An 11-member team from MDCN visited the university and assessed its College of Medicine against national standards for medical education, infrastructure, staffing and clinical training. The team reviewed what the university had put on ground for the MBBS programme, from teaching facilities to academic systems.

A letter dated 7 May 2026 carried the Council’s decision.

The letter, signed by Prof. Fatima Kyari, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of MDCN, conveyed “approval for pre-clinical accreditation of the MBBS programme” of Achievers University. The same letter also confirmed the rise in the university’s medical student admission quota from 50 to 120.

What the MDCN Team Reviewed

The MDCN accreditation team was led by Dr. N. U. Nwakanma, Deputy Registrar of the Council.

During the visit, the team assessed the university’s teaching facilities, laboratories, diagnostic equipment, governance systems, curriculum work, clinical partnerships and academic staffing. That review gave the Council the basis for its decision on the MBBS programme and the new admission quota.

Achievers University Pro-Chancellor Reacts

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Achievers University, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, described the approval as a major milestone for the university and a contribution to national healthcare development.

According to him, “This approval reflects years of strategic investment in infrastructure, personnel and academic systems aimed at building a medical college capable of meeting global standards.”

He also said Achievers University currently has the capacity to admit more than 3,000 students across its 38 academic programmes. The university, he added, continues to expand its academic and infrastructural capacity to meet growing demand for quality higher education.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Speaks on the New Quota

Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, said the higher admission quota reflects MDCN’s confidence in the university’s readiness and capacity.

According to him, the development proves the university’s commitment to producing highly skilled medical professionals who can address current healthcare challenges. It is a short statement, but it carries the weight of the new approval.

Seven Other Programmes Gain Full Accreditation

Professor Aremu also disclosed that Achievers University recently secured full accreditation for seven academic programmes presented for re-accreditation.

The programmes are:

He noted that the approvals show the university’s sustained commitment to academic quality, professional standards and steady improvement across its programmes.

Achievers University Community Gets a Boost

The MBBS pre-clinical accreditation and the raised admission quota mark a fresh step for Achievers University, especially for its College of Medicine.

With MDCN approval now covering the pre-clinical stage of the MBBS programme, the university community has reason to celebrate this achievement.
