Why should candidates check approved LL.B universities before applying?
Only universities accredited by the Council of Legal Education are authorised to admit students into the LL.B programme in Nigeria.
Any university that admits students into a Law programme without approval from the Council of Legal Education acts against the provisions that regulate legal education and such university will be subject to sanctions under existing regulations and policy.
What happens if a student enters an unapproved Law programme?
A student admitted into a Law programme at a university that is not accredited by the Council of Legal Education will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
This is a direct admission risk and candidates should verify the approved list before choosing Law through UTME, Direct Entry or any internal admission route.

What should prospective Law students do before accepting admission?
Prospective Law students should compare their proposed university with the Council of Legal Education list before they accept admission into any LL.B programme.
Parents and guardians should also check the university name, campus location and any moratorium note, since a similar school name or an ignored restriction may affect the student's route to the Nigerian Law School.
Candidates who need wider school checks may also read the List of Universities in Nigeria and Courses Offered.
Students preparing ahead for professional legal training may also read the guide on Nigerian Law School Campuses.
Will the approved LL.B university list be updated?
The Council of Legal Education will continue to update the list as necessary, under its statutory mandate to regulate legal education in Nigeria.
Members of the public should rely on the published list and later updates from the Council when checking whether a university may admit students into the LL.B programme.
