The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) invites applications for TheMuseumsLab Programme 2025.
This programme connects African and European museum professionals to build networks and exchange ideas on museum practices and community engagement.

About TheMuseumsLab Programme
TheMuseumsLab brings together experts from African and European cultural institutions to explore how museums address history, respond to modern needs and work towards fair solutions.
This programme is organised by DAAD and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN), with contributions from museums across Africa and Europe.
TheMuseumsLab includes an online kickoff, three seminar modules (online, in Berlin and in Addis Ababa), short residencies and a final digital event.
Cost Coverage by DAAD
The programme provides support for costs during onsite sessions:
- International and national travel in economy class or second-class trains.
- Local public transport during modules and residencies.
- Airport transfers for certain locations.
- Visa fees for official visa applications.
- Health insurance reimbursement up to €40.
- Accommodation for modules and residencies.
- Programme-related entrance fees.
- Daily allowance for meals not covered by the programme.
DAAD arranges all programme-related travel and accommodation.
Eligibility for TheMuseumsLab Programme
To apply, you must:
- Be a museum professional from Africa or Europe.
- Currently work in the museum, culture or art sector.
- Have at least 2 years of experience in a related field.
- Commit to full participation in the programme.
- Have English language skills.
- Reside in Africa or Europe at the time of application.
Application Process for TheMuseumsLab Programme
The programme runs from 8 May to 26 November 2025.
Submit the following documents through the DAAD portal:
- Online application form from the DAAD portal.
- CV in English.
- Letter of recommendation in English.
Optional documents include degree certificates, project information and language certificates.
