FULOKOJA Appoints Prof Gbenga Ibileye as 4th Vice-Chancellor

Federal University Lokoja has announced the appointment of Professor Gbenga Ibileye as its 4th Vice-Chancellor. His term begins on 15 February 2026.

The decision came from the University's 4th Governing Council, led by Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdallah. The Council approved the appointment after an open and merit-based selection exercise.

Professor Ibileye was chosen after a detailed interview process that involved eleven senior professors. These candidates had earlier passed several screening stages, meetings and assessments, following current rules for selecting senior officers in Nigerian federal universities.

At the end of the exercise, Professor Ibileye ranked first with a total score of 91.9.

Transition From the Outgoing Vice-Chancellor

Professor Ibileye will succeed Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, whose time as Vice-Chancellor has been widely praised within the university community. During his tenure, the university recorded steady progress in teaching standards, campus facilities, programme growth, staff and student support, campus harmony and national visibility.

The Governing Council thanked all candidates who took part in the process for their conduct and commitment. The Council also restated its focus on openness, proper procedure and strong leadership practices.

Looking Ahead

As Federal University Lokoja enters a new phase of leadership, the Council expressed confidence in Professor Ibileye's ability to build on existing progress and guide the university's academic goals in the years ahead.

Members of the university community have congratulated the Visitor, Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, the Governing Council, management team, staff and students for completing what many described as a fair and well-run appointment process.
