Godfrey Okoye University to Require Ph.D. for Teaching from 2025-2026 Session

The Godfrey Okoye University has announced a major change in its academic requirements.

From the 2025/2026 academic session, a Ph.D. will be the minimum qualification for teaching at the university.

This new directive aligns with the National Universities Commission guidelines and aims to improve teaching quality.

The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, shared this during a spiritual retreat for academic and senior administrative staff.

Importance of Mentorship and Accountability

The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of mentorship, urging officials to guide students responsibly.

He warned against the abuse of the mentorship system and highlighted the need for students to create positive changes in society.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Sister Professor MarySylvia Nwachukwu, committed to stricter supervision to ensure teaching standards are upheld.

Spiritual Reflection and Institutional Growth

The retreat also featured a spiritual reflection by Reverend Father Doctor Liberatus Isife.

He reminded the staff that the growth of any institution depends on continuous evaluation and a commitment to improvement.

He pointed out challenges such as the failure to develop, outdated teaching materials and crossing professional boundaries.

He called for personal sacrifices to accelerate the university's progress.

Retreat Attendees and Student Session

The retreat was attended by principal officers, professors, heads of departments, directors and other senior officials.

A similar spiritual session was held for students at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena.
