While charging the new students, Odedeji warned them to avoid any vices that could clog the wheel of their academic career.
Some of the things the management frowned upon were indecent dressing, cultism, drug usage and other anti-social behaviours, according to him.
"Your primary goal on our campus is to get a certificate that will help you achieve in life," stated the acting rector. "Be advised that management fawns at some anti-social behaviours such as examination misbehaviour, indecent dressing and secret connections that you have sworn against today." For examination misconduct, the Polytechnic recently expelled 30 students and suspended another 60.
"Some people have a preference for tinted vehicles, however they are not permitted to enter our campus for the safety of our personnel and students." We have also taken steps to record motorcycle operations at the entrance so that individuals who transport our pupils are identified.
"I will only encourage you not to ride motorcycles over long distances if you must."
"As freshmen, recognise who you associate with, refuse any unsolicited assistance from any source and avoid anything that has the potential to tarnish the name of the Institution and your families." Rather, channel your energy into constructive and useful projects that will make your name immortal."
He urged the newly admitted students to take advantage of every opportunity to succeed, pointing out that the school has well over 100 academic staff members with doctoral degrees.
"If you want to graduate with flying colours, get along well with your lecturers for guidance, mentorship and tutorship and be focused, committed and disciplined."
"On a final note, I wish you every success in your academic studies, I encourage you to take on leadership positions in various professions that you have chosen and remember who you are as sons and daughters," he concluded.
