Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUSOK) has split the Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies into two and the Department of Modern European Languages and Linguistics (MELL) into three.

At Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto (UDUS), the administration has decided to divide the Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies into two separate faculties. The Department of Modern European Languages and Linguistics (MELL) was also divided into three new departments, which are now known as the Department of English and Literary Studies, the Department of French and the Department of Linguistics respectively.

The Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies was divided into two faculties: Arts and Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Prof. Isah Maishanu, the new Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, confirmed the news as well.

Prof. Ibrahim Shehu Sidi of the new Department of English and Literary Studies was named Dean of the new Faculty of Arts, according to Maishanu.

Mallam Ibrahim Garba and Mallam Bello Danladi Dogondaji, both lecturers at the former MELL department, confirmed the new development.

"The university has split the Faculty and the department," they explained, "but the development will not be posted on the notice board because the school is on strike."

"The Department of English and Literary Studies, the Department of French and the Department of Linguistics have replaced the former MELL Department."

The Faculty of Arts now has six departments, according to Dogondaji, who revealed the names of new Heads of Department.

"Dr. Abubakar Atiku Alkali has been appointed Head of the Department of English and Literary Studies; Dr. Umar Ahmad has been appointed Head of the Department of Linguistics and Prof. Umaru Kiro has been appointed Head of the Department of French."

"The Department of History and International Studies, the Department of Nigerian Languages and the Department of Mass Communication are the other three departments under the Faculty of Arts," he explained.
