UNN Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Gets Smart-Classroom

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof Benjamin Ozumba has commissioned  s Smart – Classroom in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Benjamin Ozumba on Tuesday April 24, 2018 commissioned a smart – classroom in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The classroom is equipped with a state-of-the art equipment, including  a projector with an in-built operating system, an internet-enabled podium with operating system, smart board and 40 works station all connected to the internet.

Prof Ozumba said the classroom was made available through the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) which had also financed other ICT-based projects in the university, including laying fibre optic cables to interconnect the campuses, provision of teleconferencing facilities among others.

"This project is novel and highly innovative", the Vice-Chancellor said, stating that the university was embracing technology as a way of solving problems created by population growth in the institution.

Prof Ozumba said the smart classroom would reduce the stress of teaching and predispose students of the faculty to be ICT compliant.   He said the facility had provided opportunity for the faculty to conduct its examinations using Computer Based Technology. "With this you can use modules to teach here", Ozumba said.

The Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof Romanus Ezeokonkwo thanked the Vice-Chancellor for situating the first Smart Classroom in the university in his faculty.  "We neither lobbied nor canvassed for it", the Dean said it was built because of the love the Vice-Chancellor had for the faculty.

He promised that his faculty would make good use of the facility to promote teaching and learning.

"This is the best way to go in teaching", said Dr Olisa Okeke, the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Dr Olisa said the smart classroom had provided tremendous opportunity for the faculty's staff and students to advance their knowledge in ICT and prayed it be used as a shared resource.
