UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Form for 2026/2027 Academic Session

University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, has invited qualified Nurses to apply for admission into its Post-Basic Nursing programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The programmes run for 12 calendar months and lead to a Post-Basic Diploma in either Paediatric Nursing or Accident and Emergency Nursing.

UPTH runs the admission through its College of Nursing Sciences, and candidates who meet the stated entry rules can apply before the closing date.

Available Post-Basic Nursing Programmes at UPTH

UPTH College of Nursing Sciences has opened admission into two Post-Basic Diploma options for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The programmes are:

Each programme runs for 12 calendar months. Candidates should choose the option that matches their training goal and professional interest, since the entrance process covers both programmes.

UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the entry requirements before they apply. UPTH will screen candidates based on their academic qualifications, entrance examination score and other stated conditions.

Applicants must have SSCE with five credit passes in not more than two sittings. The required subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry; Biology must not be replaced with Health Science.

A candidate may combine NECO and WAEC results. That gives applicants with results from both examination bodies a valid route, as long as the subject and sitting rules are met.

Applicants must also hold registration as a Nurse or Midwife. They need at least one year of post-qualification experience before seeking admission into the programme.

A B.NSc with PGDE gives a candidate an added advantage.

How UPTH Will Select Candidates

UPTH will select candidates through academic review and an entrance examination. The entrance examination will be a computer-based test.

Candidates should prepare with their credentials in mind, because the school will consider both their documents and their performance in the test. No applicant should treat the examination as a formality.

How to Apply for UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Admission

Applicants should pay a non-refundable application fee of ₦20,000 only to the School Remittal Platform, UPTH College of Nursing Sciences.

After payment, the applicant should take the teller to the College Bursar for an official receipt. With proof of payment, the applicant can then collect the application form from the office of the Registrar, College of Nursing Sciences.

Candidates should keep their receipt safe. The school will require evidence of payment before issuing the form.

Closing Date for Submission of Forms

Completed application forms must reach the Registrar’s office on or before Friday, 11 September 2026.

Applicants should attach photocopies of all relevant documents to the completed form. Late submission may affect a candidate’s chance, so applicants should handle the process early.

UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Entrance Examination Date

The entrance examination will hold on Wednesday, 18 September 2026.

Venue: College Auditorium
Time: 10:00 am prompt

The examination covers both Paediatric Nursing and Accident and Emergency Nursing applicants.

Candidates must bring the original copies of their certificates and valid practising licences for the interview on the same day. This requirement matters, since the school will need to confirm each candidate’s documents during the admission process.

Note for Applicants Outside Rivers State

Applicants coming from outside the state should make personal arrangements for accommodation and feeding during the interview period.

UPTH did not state that it would provide accommodation or feeding for candidates. Applicants should plan ahead and avoid last-minute pressure.
