Council of Legal Education list of approved universities for LL.B in Nigeria 2026

The Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School, has released a public notice on the universities approved to admit students into the LL.B programme in Nigeria for 2026.

The notice is directed to the general public, prospective students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders. It states that only universities accredited by the Council of Legal Education are authorised to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws, LL.B, programme in Nigeria.

What the public notice says

The Council states that any university that admits students into a Law programme without its approval is acting against the rules that govern legal education in Nigeria.

It also states that such a university will face sanctions under extant regulations and policy.

The warning goes further; students admitted into Law programmes in universities not accredited by the Council of Legal Education will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

That point is the centre of the notice, and it is plain.

Universities with admission moratorium in the notice

The notice also names three universities with admission moratoriums approved by the Council.

Baze University, Abuja

The notice states that Baze University, Abuja, has a moratorium on admission for three years, with effect from 2023/2024 till 2025/2026 session.

Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State

The notice states that Lead City University, Ibadan, has a moratorium on admission for five years, with effect from 2023/2024 till 2027/2028 session.

Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State

The notice states that the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, has a moratorium on admission for two years, with effect from 2024/2025 till 2025/2026 session.

Council says updates will continue

The Council adds that it will continue to update the list as necessary in line with its statutory mandate to regulate legal education in Nigeria.

For students and families, that means the published list remains the reference point in this notice; the message is direct, and very clear.
