Official: Benue State University (BSU) Now Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM)

Benue State University, Makurdi, has a new name from now on. The school is now called Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi. People might call it MOAUM for short, though that name might take some getting used to. The change did not just happen by chance. The Benue State House of Assembly made it official with a law. The Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, signed the law on 30 December 2024. That date is now part of the school’s story.

Why the Change Happened

The move isn’t random. The state government wants to honour Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu, a man they say played a big role in shaping higher education in the state. By putting his name on the university, they aim to keep his legacy alive.

What does this mean for students and staff?

The change goes beyond a new nameplate. A memo from the Office of the Registrar states that all official matters — letters, memos, results and IDs — must now carry the new name, Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.

The message was directed at principal officers, deans, directors and department heads. They’ve been asked to update all paperwork and systems to reflect the name change right away.

Same purpose, new label

Despite the renaming, the memo made it clear that the school’s mission stays the same. It will continue offering higher education as it always has. Just under a different name now.

So, while the title has changed, the school’s core remains untouched. Students won’t need to worry about their degrees being affected.
