FG Announces Changes in Governing Council of Two Federal Universities

The Federal Government has announced changes in the leadership of the Governing Councils of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), and the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL).

This decision aims to enhance national cohesion and strengthen governance within these institutions.

Details of the Reassignment

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, revealed that the Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of the two universities’ Governing Councils have been reassigned.

Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba SAN will now serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of FUOYE.

Engr. Kayode Ojo has been reassigned to the same role at FUL.

Reason for the Reassignment

The Pro-Chancellor of FUOYE, Engr. Kayode Ojo, was noted to be an indigene of Ekiti State, where the university is located.

To promote national integration and ensure impartial governance, Pro-Chancellors are usually appointed from states outside the location of the university.

This standard practice reflects the Ministry’s commitment to fairness, diversity, and national unity.

Expected Impact

Dr. Alausa explained that this reassignment is intended to strengthen the leadership structure of federal universities in Nigeria.

These changes are expected to foster inclusive governance and support the effective administration of the universities.

The Federal Government believes that this adjustment will positively influence the development and operation of the institutions.

Implementation Timeline

The reassignment takes immediate effect.

The Honourable Minister assured that the changes will benefit the universities and contribute to the progress of higher education in Nigeria.
