UNN Suspends Student Union Activities Indefinitely
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka has suspended Student Union activities with immediate effect. A committee has been set up to probe the crisis, while the Dean of Student Affairs will handle student matters in the meantime. Students are urged to remain calm and continue with their studies.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka has stepped in with a heavy hand. At an emergency meeting held on Friday, September 26, 2025, management approved the immediate suspension of all Student Union Government (SUG) activities on the Nsukka campus.
Why the Suspension Came
The decision did not arrive out of the blue. In recent weeks, a flood of media publications and counter-statements linked to the Union raised eyebrows. These carried allegations serious enough to stir unrest and threaten the peace on campus. With such tension in the air, the leadership felt the only way to steady the ship was to halt Union activities, at least for now.
What the Order Means
From this moment, no gatherings, meetings, or events under the SUG banner will hold. The Vice-Chancellor has already named a committee to look into the crisis and investigate the allegations. Their report is expected soon, but until then, silence falls on Union activities.
Who Takes Over Student Welfare
To avoid leaving a gap, the Dean of Student Affairs will oversee student welfare matters. This ensures that essential needs do not suffer while the Union remains suspended.
Call to Students
The administration has appealed to students to keep calm, obey rules, and stay focused on their academics. The tone is clear: no disruption should derail learning. Management counts on cooperation from the student body as the committee digs into the matter.
Final Note
The university has promised to handle the situation swiftly. For now, patience is the watchword. The campus remains open, classes continue, and students are urged to put their energy into studies while waiting for the committee’s findings.
