Eid-el-Kabir Public Holidays: FG Declares 27 and 28 May 2026 Work-Free

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 27 May, and Thursday, 28 May 2026, as public holidays for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the decision through a statement issued on Monday by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry. The statement said the declaration shows the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who will mark the festival with the wider Islamic community.

FG Announces Two-Day Eid-el-Kabir Holiday

Nigerians will observe the Eid-el-Kabir public holidays on Wednesday and Thursday.

The announcement came from the Ministry of Interior, with Tunji-Ojo sending greetings to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and the diaspora. He described Eid-ul-Adha as a festival with deep spiritual meaning, rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God and compassion for humanity.

Minister Urges Prayer and Reflection

Tunji-Ojo asked Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayer and sober reflection.

According to the statement, “The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen.”

That message keeps the focus on peace, security and the welfare of every citizen.

Call for Unity During the Celebration

The minister also called on citizens to embrace brotherhood, unity and peaceful coexistence during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

His message spoke to Muslim faithful and the wider public, urging Nigerians to mark the season with care for one another. The Federal Government also wished Muslims across the country a peaceful, blessed and joyous Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
