MUTA Scholarship 2026: Eligibility and Deadline

The MUTA Education Committee has opened applications for the 2026 MUTA Education Scholarship Program. The award is merit-based and open to full-time undergraduate students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), medicine, and allied medical programmes.
One qualified recipient will be selected from each of the 14 Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State; one recipient will also be selected from Taraba State and Nasarawa State.
Number of scholarships and coverage
The Committee plans to award up to 16 scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Selection coverage is set out as:
- 14 recipients from the 14 Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State
- 1 recipient from Taraba State
- 1 recipient from Nasarawa State
What the scholarship can be used for
The scholarship amount for each recipient will be determined and announced after the selection process is complete.
Recipients may use the funds for tuition, fees, research expenses, or other costs directly linked to undergraduate study (school-related costs only).
Who is eligible (read this carefully)
An applicant must meet the conditions below:
Programme and study mode
- The applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate STEM, medicine, or allied medical field.
- The applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student.
CGPA requirement
The applicant must have:
- a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale (equivalent to second class upper degree), or
- a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Applicants who do not meet the minimum CGPA requirement will not be considered, even if they have the highest CGPA in their Local Government. That rule is strict; no exception was stated.

Supporting documents required
Applicants are expected to upload these documents:
1) Personal statement
A two-page, double-spaced essay explaining why the applicant deserves the award, covering:
- academic history and accomplishments
- community service involvement
- career goals
- financial need
2) Certificate of origin
A document from the applicant’s State or Local Government confirming origin.
3) CGPA certification form
Applicants must download the CGPA verification form and have it completed and signed by the Academic Officer or Head of Department of the institution.

Applications submitted without this form will not be considered (again, strict).
How applications are assessed
Eligible applications will be reviewed using the criteria below:
- Academic standing (CGPA): 50%
- Strength of personal statement: 40%
- Community service: 10%
Applications with falsified information will be disqualified.
Deadline for submission
Completed application form and all required supporting documents must be received by the Committee on or before 11:59 PM Wednesday, 15 Apr 2026 (US EST, GMT-5).
What happens after submission
Award winners will be notified via email. Applicants who are not selected will not receive individual notifications.
The names of scholarship recipients will also be published on the official website and shared on MUTA Education’s social media platforms during the second or third week of June (watch it closely; check Jun too).

Award presentation and image consent
The awards will be presented at a ceremony planned for July or August 2025; the exact date will be announced once confirmed.
Recipients must consent to the use of their images for promotional purposes.
