FUTA Gets 36 New Professors

Federal University of Technology, Akure, has honoured 36 newly appointed professors at a special ceremony.

The event took place on Thursday, 21 May 2026, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, charging the new professors to keep widening their knowledge, protect academic dignity, and accept the heavier duties that come with their new rank. The university organised the ceremony to recognise their academic work, research, scholarship and service.

Vice-Chancellor Charges New Professors

Professor Oladiji described the rank of professor as the highest point within the academic profession.

She said professors must continue to show depth, broad knowledge and clear value through their work. She also linked national growth to the quality of education, noting that researchers and scholars sit at the centre of that growth.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the new professors to look beyond their areas of specialisation.

Her message was plain: a professor should bring sound thought to wider public issues, not just narrow academic debates. She said society looks up to professors for guidance, leadership and answers to problems.

Teaching, Research and Mentorship Remain Key

Professor Oladiji also asked the honourees to stay committed to teaching, mentorship, research and service to humanity.

She said professors have roles within university administration and management, and should help move the school forward through leadership inside and outside the campus community. The title carries pride; it also carries work.

Registrar Praises the Honourees

The Registrar, Mr Charles Adeleye, described the professorial rank as a reward for years of dedication, resilience, commitment and service.

He praised the honourees for their positive work in society and asked them to keep making impact through scholarship and mentorship. He also said the ceremony has become a strong tradition at FUTA, created to celebrate academic achievement and encourage younger academics.

New Professors Give Thanks

Professor Bukola Adetola spoke on behalf of the newly appointed professors.

She thanked the university management, colleagues, family members and well-wishers for honouring them through the ceremony. She said the recognition would push the honourees to show greater commitment to scholarship, mentorship, research and service to humanity.

She also assured the university management that the new professors would continue to support the growth and advancement of FUTA and society.

Note on the FUTA Professorial Ceremony

The ceremony placed the new professors before the university community and marked their rise to the top academic rank.

FUTA used the event to honour their work, while the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar reminded them of the duties that come with the title. The message was direct enough: keep learning, keep mentoring, keep serving.
